Why your friends should not be your wedding photographer?

Why your friends should not be your wedding photographer?

We all know weddings are expensive and that’s why they rate up to the top money-making industry. Paying all those catering, tailoring bills, and stuff could feel a real charge on your budgeted pocket. Among all these expenses if there is one thing I will tell you from my 14 years of experience of weddings including my own is you should not cut short on the budget is photography.

Your wedding pictures are only one thing that is going to last the longest. By last I mean really last. Love might walk out of a marriage but the pictures last for grandkids to see. Now you don’t want your grandkids to see some crappy wedding pictures of yours. For that, I will advise you to get professional help and don’t request some friend and relative to do it for you. It will ruin your memories for the following reasons.

You might not get what you hoped for

They are not professionals, even if they have the right camera and lenses they do not have enough practice with the angles and lighting. Even if they have some experience in the field they might not know even the basics about event coverage and might miss coverage of some of the moments most close to your heart. The regret wouldn’t die for years, trust me. Covering the entire event click and click isn’t even the deal. Professionals later filter and touch up your photos. Some lucky pictures even get full-on editing. You might miss that beauty if you give the task to some armature.

Personal issues might get in the way

Believe it or not one of my friends requested her cousin to be the photographer at her wedding, and the guy didn’t take one single picture of the bride’s brother at the event because the two didn’t have along well. So she has no memory of her dear brother being on one of the most important events of her life. This would never have happened if she had hired a professional photographer.

You might not get pictures on time

They might have scheduled time for your big day but once it’s over they have other life too and your wedding pictures might not be on the priority list for them. Plus you are not paying them or paying them some amount which is not motivation enough to get your job done. This happened to a friend who hired her friend’s dad. The guy showed up at the wedding took all the photos but later didn’t even answered her calls. She came back from her honeymoon, had a maternity shoot later, and had her son but never heard of her wedding pictures. Needless to say, it cost her a very good friend too.

You will not be able to complain

As you are getting this for free or as cheap as nearly free you will not be able to complain if you didn’t like the pictures, or in my friend’s case didn’t get them at all. I know this is horrible but you like it or not they are doing you a favor and thus you lose your right to complain about it.

It may even jeopardies your relationship

All the things stated above should be enough for you to understand why this might cost you a good friend/ relation. In case if it is not yet clear let me state it clearly. They might feel they are not obligated to you in any way as they are not getting paid (which they are not but they did accept a responsibility) and you might feel they are not living up to their responsibility or at least your standard of it. This might cause a grudge on both sides and grave damage to the relationship.

So in conclusion, you might not want to budget out on photography on your special day but there are other ways to fit your wedding into your pocket. Read the following articles to learn how.
