No More Pets By Linda Sachs
An entertaining early reader, a picture book for children ages 4-8. It is about a pet loving, a little girl who will promise her mom anything to get that puppy or kitten they see in the pet shop window. But will Mariah remember her promises, and help her mom care for all their pets? Adults and children will enjoy reading this fun, jump up and down and twirl around the story.
It helps to teach the importance of keeping promises and helping to share responsibilities.
Linda Sachs was inspired by her daughter and Linda’s other daughter provided the illustrations. It was written in 1998 while Linda raised her young family and studied Creative Writing. When asked to write what you know for a children’s book assignment, she wrote about her daughter Mariah’s desire to have every pet she saw. Over twenty years later it is still relevant.
Most parents can relate to the storyline as their children want every pet they see as well. It helps to open that conversation of having a pet for your very own. Having a pet comes with responsibility. In the end, this story is about family learning how to share the responsibility of caring for pets.
Linda Sachs grew up playing make believe on a small farm in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. It was there that she developed her imagination and her interest to write. After taking a creative writing course she did some freelance work. She was offered a job with a local newspaper after they published a special assignment she wrote for them, Off The Beaten Path. However, Linda kept doing freelance work and ran an in-home daycare while her children were preschool age. Later she worked with direct embroidery and even had her own business for fifteen years. Today she works full-time for Canada Post as a Post Master in her hometown. She fits in Book Reading Events for schools and libraries by using her personal days and vacation time. She is busy and loving every minute when she can share her story.
It is satisfying for Sachs to have a story she wrote twenty years ago finally published and being shared with the world. With a growing number of grandchildren, she thinks it is wonderful to share something so personal and special with them. It gives her great joy when families praise her story. To hear positive reactions and responses from children is the best feeling of all.
